Our Background

One of Auckland’s leading Urban Music and Culture stores, Beat Merchants has been supplying the hottest Hip Hop, Reggae, Drum & Bass, Dub step and Funk music for Thirteen years making us Auckland’s longest serving Independent Music and Culture store.

In January 2012 we closed the doors of our bricks & mortar location to pursue an e eCommerce platform with the launch in March 2012. Our new premises in Kingsland, Auckland, New Zealand also provides for Cash & Eftpos sales on site, as still we take great pleasure in having a tangible relationship with our customers.

Beat Merchants stocks and distributes one of New Zealand’s most extensive collection of Graffiti Art Supplies, and actively supports the Urban Art movement within New Zealand’s major centers. To that end we partner with artists, designers and collectives alike.

We also operate at the forefront of emerging urban musical styles from New Zealand & around the globe.

Beat Merchants is actively involved in the promotion of club culture in Auckland New Zealand.

Our People

Jason Howson has owned and operated Beat Merchants since 2007. Jason’s love of urban culture, be it music, art or fashion has propelled Beat Merchants to operate within a network of like minded individuals & organizations from around the world, bringing the best products and artists from around the globe to New Zealand’s shores. He is most likely the guy to pick up the phone when you call, where your questions or concerns will be gladly answered to the best of our capability.
